THE RED RIVER SAGA RECON REPORT - JULY 20, 2009
The construction project will replace an existing steel bridge with timber decking that was built in 1954. Over the years, this bridge has become deficient and
unsafe for large road maintenance equipment and fish stocking vehicles. The existing bridge will be replaced with a single span steel girder structure with concrete
decking. The new bridge will provide safe access for the public & support road maintenance activities, as well as future stream & fish habitat restoration projects.
Recreational visitors in the Indian Creek area are encouraged to use caution during the construction project and to avoid the immediate vicinity where heavy
equipment will be operating. For more information, contact the Cumberland Ranger District office at 606-784-6428 or the Gladie Learning Center at (606) 663-8100

THE RED RIVER SAGA RECON REPORT - JUNE 22nd, 2009
Road closure at Indian Creek - Contact: Kimberly Morgan
WINCHESTER, Ky., June 15, 2009 – Beginning Monday, June 22, the Indian Creek Road in Menifee County, Forest Service Road #9 in the Red River Gorge, will be closed
for construction. The closure is expected to span over a period of at least 90 days as contractors remove and reconstruct a bridge over the East Fork of Indian Creek.
During this time, the road will be closed to vehicle traffic in the interest of public safety.
“We realize this road leads to a popular area of the gorge where many visitors enjoy fishing, hiking and rock climbing,” said Dave Manner, District Ranger of the
Cumberland Ranger District, “but the bridge repairs are necessary to improve travel in this area.”
The construction project will replace an existing steel bridge with timber decking that was built in 1954. Over the years, this bridge has become deficient and
unsafe for large road maintenance equipment and fish stocking vehicles. The existing bridge will be replaced with a single span steel girder structure with concrete
