JOE
SANDERS FOUND |
Louisville
Kentucky native, 37 year old Joseph Sanders had been missing in
the Red River Gorge for
nearly two weeks. Last known to be present at the Pumpkin Bottom
Camp Ground, near the Gladie
Outpost, numerous search parties and helicopter thermal imaging
missions had failed to locate him during
that period. However, the morning of Saturday (June 28) finally
revealed his whereabouts and his fate, an
unfortunate sad one. At this time no details have been released
regarding the circumstances surrounding
this incident. The RRS wishes to extend
our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Joe Sanders.

SNELL'S COURTHOUSE MOONRISE |
The RRS is honored this week to present
an Exclusive Red River Gorge Photo supplied to us by famed
Lexington Photographer John W. Snell. Auxier Ridge's Courthouse
Rock is one of the most popular
areas to explore in all of the Gorge. The Full Moon of June 2008
is captured by Mr. Snell with a
Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II Camera. We offer this latest image as a Computer

Here's a humorous AVANTI DESIGNS update on
the ongoing creation of the Custom-made RRS Rings:
"The One Ring (Master Model) was forged in the Mystical Fires
deep in the base of Mount Doom, (cast in
my basement using a medium frequency induction casting machine).
Its weight was a massive burden for
its wearer (Super Bowl style hunk o metal weighing 24.5 grams).
Its surface was inscribed with
Mysterious Runes (Red River Saga EST 1977) that gave its wearer
Amazing Magical Powers. (Makes you
irresistible to super hot chicks) Instead of destroying it as was
decided at the Council of Elrond the
Campers (Red River Saga Crew) decided that everyone needed one so
that they could all be Rulers of
Middle Earth (Indian Glen). For reference an equal weight that you
can simulate is about 5 quarters."
You Now have 7 days to submit your Ring Size in order to Secure
Construction of your own RRS Ring.

We have a wonderful offer to inform you about and it will not cost
you a dime. Many
of you know
that our Andrew Ray is a Master Jeweler and has come up with an
idea that we think is terrific. He is
offering, for FREE, Custom-made Silver
RRS Signet Rings (a male and a female
version) to Saga Members.
"Due to popular demand there will be
a Gent's Super Bowl style ring and a Smaller more Delicate
Ladies Ring as well. These will be in Silver for Free for the Saga
Members on the trip this year. If you
want Gold or any other metal let me know and I will get you a price.
Please don't guess at the size if you
are not 100% sure go find out at a local Jewelry Store. I need to
know by the end of June to complete
production and to find out how much Silver to budget for. As to
which finger I don't care, it's your hands
so pick the one you want to wear it on and have it measured."

TRAIL
OF DESPAIR PHOTOS |
Finally the time has been unearthed to acquire, process and post
the photos from May 9 - 11's
MAD MOUNTAIN
MIKE AND THE TRAIL OF DESPAIR. The Journey itself was initially
delayed
for two weeks due to an unfavorable Weather Forecast which never
materialized. That first
set of dates turned out to be excellent and several of us were very
upset at the local
weatherman. At any rate, Mike and his party enjoyed some interesting
sights, discovered the
garbage habits of others and explored the access way into the Right
Fork of Chimney Top Creek.

rather the lack of it,

RRS:
TRANQUILITY |
Our sights are now set toward the month of September and our 32nd
Annual Venture into Red River Gorge.
RRS: TRANQUILITY is the Banner
we shall fly under this year. The honor of deciding that title won
the
year before in a Contest of Skill by RRS
Member Dawn Blizard. She gave much thought to our trip's history
and atmosphere before arriving at this one. A name which implies
both Peace and Expectation to those
fortunate enough to attend. But first there are 3 months of Hot,
Humid Summer Season to traverse.
Then the Adventure Begins . . . in the meantime, for the Official

Over at RRGToday.com, Jim
Stickley has written a marvelous article on the mission and intent
of the
USFS Back Country Rangers. With a desire
to educate the public on the benefits of safety along with
the forthcoming LAC mandates they will hike the Gorge. To read it

Heads Up! Next weekend (June 7-8) sees

THE WEDDING |
Saturday, May 27th, 1989 remains the date of our most unique and
memorable event in RRS history.
On this day the Marriage of Jon Morris and Wendy Terrell took place
on our site in Red River Gorge.
A glorious day filled with family and friends with some action and
adventure thrown in. Upstream
along 9B earlier in the week, a Electrical Transformer had accidentally
fallen into the stream. All
the Fork's occupants were forced to relocate along 9A, the wooden
bridge or elsewhere. This
created a massive community of people and horses for the Wedding
Weekend. In hindsight
it only added to the spectacle and the guest list. To See the Wedding

Also New this Week is the latest edition
of ANDREW'S RANTS
which perhaps many of you
may be able to relate to should you have a teenager in the house
or are associated with
one. Speaking personally this subject matter hits home very closely
and its pretty funny.
We continue to run behind on the photos of the latest Mad Mountain
Mike Hike. Every
effort is being made to get those to you ASAP
so please Standby.
