Red River Gorge, Kentucky. RRS: OMEGA - Beyond the Annual Trip

Information Display tells of activity to reduce trees into 'Pine Tar' in the 1800's. A function which we were
unaware of taking place. The inscription reads:
"A Tar Kiln stood here in the 1800's. "Tar Burners" toiled for 40 days to produce about 200 gallons of pine tar.
Tar was used in the manufacturing of useful products including medicine, ropes, ships and axle grease for
early wagons."
