THE
NEW AVANTI SHOWER SYSTEM |
Many of our RRS Events throughout
the year would not seem 'out of the ordinary' viewed by other
visitors
to the Red River Gorge - - Hikes, Spring/Fall Ventures, etc. However
it ends there. Our BIG Annual RRG
Trip
held in September is a different animal ... it is THE
Crown Jewel, held for an entire week with RRS
Members
often traveling from all parts of the country (yes, and even OUT
of it) just to attend. Over the 3 plus
decades we have developed a series of Support Systems intended
to make our life simpler and easier during
this prolonged stay. Many of these systems often had our Lady
Members specifically in mind, like we
always say, "When the Ladies are Happy, We are Happy".
Probably the chief unit that has kept them most
content (and the guys too ... we will admit it!) has been the
AVANTI Shower System.
After all a week is a long time ...
Over time the Shower has undergone numerous incarnations and has
even been hit by a flood ... then retrieved
to continue its work. Now for the Upcoming 2010 Edition (our 34th
Annual Trip) RRS Member Andrew Ray
has
gone back to the drawing board in order to simplify the system
and increase its energy consumption rate.
During last September's RRS Trip
we did sit around the Firering and discuss what new technology
was out
there that could compact some of our equipment saving time, energy
and MONEY! What came of that discussion
was what you will see here ... links to the NEW
"Tankless" Hot Water Heater powered by propane. The
Unit will
soon be tested, once the Winter Weather eases off a little, then
judged on its performance based for our needs.
Before that happens have a look at the Unit plus the NEW
Gasoline powered Pump which will supply the water
the Shower will require: Portable Tankless Water Heater [CLICK

TRAGIC
DEATH IN INDIAN CREEK |
An apparent Climbing Accident occurred on Saturday, February
13th around 2:30pm ET ... not long after our
RRS Members John & Sue Robertson had left Indian Creek. Here
are the basic facts as we have them:
"A man who fell to his death in the Red River Gorge on Saturday
has been identified as Shaun Wilhoite, 28,
of Owen County. Menifee County Coroner Melody Smallwood said Wilhoite
was rock climbing with about a dozen
friends in the Indian Creek area of the gorge at about 2:30 p.m.
Saturday when he fell about 50 feet. Wilhoite
was pronounced dead at the scene. Smallwood said there was snow
and ice on the ground, but it was unclear
whether that might have contributed to the fall.“The people
in the group said they come to the gorge four
times a year,” she said. “It’s beautiful down
here, but I don’t if people are really aware of how dangerous
the cliffs are ...” It is reported Mr. Wilhoite leaves behind
a Wife and Young Child [Lexington Herald-Leader]
For further reports including Video on the incident please skip
over to The Red River Gorge Today at this

The RRS and RRGtoday
extend to the friends and family of Mr. Wilhoite our deepest sympathies.
PLEASE NOTE: Regarding our schedule
for the upcoming "Creation Falls Trek" which had been
slated for
March 12th - 14th ... some issues have come to light in the last
72 hours which will delay this venture.
Please standby as we work out some conflicts we will then get
that New Target Date out to you ASAP..

TECH UPGRADES & SCHEDULE JUGGLING |
RRS: XXXIV ... (that's YEAR
34 for those who hate dealing with Roman Numerals) remains
several months away.
True we are still dealing with Cold, Ice and Snow from a period
that the Groundhog told you was coming!! Despite
all that, work on Projects which will directly effect the next
BIG Trip in September have begun.
This Week we
wanted to give you a glimpse of some of that work, not all of
it by any means. A few surprises will be kept
under wraps but to 'wet your whistle' we offer peeks at the New
Revised Tankless Shower System and Totally
New Hot and Cold Water Sink with
Base. As you might gather each of these projects primarily has
our Lady
RRS Members in mind. Making their
lives better makes the lives of the rest of us better during our
visits!!

RRS
Emails should have reached its members a few days ago regarding
the seemingly ever changing 2010 RRS
Schedule of Events! As you might expect, trying to mobilize a
group as large as ours can be somewhat daunting
when dealing with so many personal/work schedules, holidays, etc.
Such has been the case thus far; yet, we
have finalized what appears to be Solid Dates for all our upcoming
activities. We are not overly happy with
it but it was the best we could do given the information we had.
In addition, this schedule has NO Flexibility
at all. Should we cancel an event it will be just that CANCELLED
... there will be NO Postponements for the
early Spring/Summer Period. Now our RRS:
XXXIV and Fall Venture Trips have been unaffected by the
alterations
so don't panic ... each RRS Member
should immediately review the New Schedule and plan accordingly
